After SriLankan Army defeated LTTE in 2009, after more than thirty years of civil war, northern part of the country was opened for public to come and experience the war sites of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Pudukuduirippu and Elephant Pass where the scares of war are still remaining. Dark tourism traveler is always seeking and curios to gather knowledge about historical tragedies and has an interest to travel to tragic places to pay respect to those who lost their lives. Therefore, it would be an ideal way to add these places to their tour itineraries and on the other hand, this could be an income for Sri Lankan Tourism.

  3. There were the considerable sources of improving and developing dark tourism attracting not only the inbound tourism but outbound tourism as well in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately the institutions operating within the tourism sector in Sri Lanka could not find this new trend of tourism potentiality that could be improved to increase the relative contribution of the tourism sector to Gross Domestic Product of the country. As such, the policy makers, the officials, institutions and the businesses concerned with the development of tourism sector in Sri Lanka could be made aware of the likelihood of the upliftment of tourism industry channelled through this new trend of Dark Tourism. you have given good suggestions. I am afaraid that this will not keeping only for suggestions....

  6. For me visiting these places is not about enjoying but about trying to understand some of what happened. Also visiting these places are important to be able to deal with our emotions .Hopefully we will learn from some of the horrors of history so that such things will never happen again. Plus amongst the many stories of sadness there are also incredible stories of courage, bravery and strength. Dark Tourism is not for everyone but it serves a very important purpose!
